Thank you God...
Simply for being so good to me and mine... I love you more and more with each day as I realize that while I might not know what tomorrow will bring I do know that YOU BRING TOMORROW. That really is good enough for me.
Welcome To My World
I can not believe that it has been so long since I've blogged.......I have been so busy...I'll hit the highlights and promise that I will do better
Rest of July....Linda was here for most of it and we so enjoyed having her with us...we so wish that she would move back here.....she should and hopefully will sometime soon...she just has to get a lot of things ironed out..
August..... my computer completely died....I lost all my pictures and everything else....
I had been very bad at not saving anything and thought I lost my new book but thankfully my friend Lois had kept every chapter I emailed to her and I also had another copy from loaning it to Dorothy so that wasn't lost and I had also keopt the biblical novel .....I thought I lost two bible studies I created but found them. Had to retrace my check books. Sev took the hard drive into Western Digital and they are trying to get it back....the people at Office Depot couldn't...now I'm working with my laptop.
All the real flowers died on the patio...we either didn't water them enough or too much so we replaced them with beautiful artificial ones..even the hummingbirds believe they are real...I know it's cheating but at least we have beauty.
We had Paul and Gloria's little girls out for a week end and took them to the Mission Viejo Rodeo...it was their first rodeo and they seemed to enjoy it. they also made jewelry with Great Grandma and that was fun.
Laurie's Arielle is on the ship for her semester on acruise ship. I heard from her today via email and she is in Casablanca. Such an adventure but we miss her.
Laurie turned 49 on the 7th and we will be taking her to a birthday lunch tomorrow. Right now Lindsey is with Mom..they are making Norwegian flat bread.
We are all fine....just don't know where the time goes.

Remember ....
Got a copy of a menu from Woolworth's dated in 1957. I was only 17 then and dating so I know I ate in many a Woolworth's in Chicago.
Just look at these prices....
Baked ham and cheese sandwich.....60 cents
Egg Salad sandwich....30 cents
Banana split......25 cents
Milk Shake and Malted Milk (made with 2 dips of real ice cream) 25cents
Hot chocoloate with whipped topping and wafers....15 cents
a slice of aplie pie and a slice of layer cake ..... 15 cents each (10 cents more for ice cream)
a coke......10 cents
cup of coffee with all the refills you want.....5 cents
Ah yes those were the "good old days"..... but then I only made 50 cents an hour!
How many of you remember this? Let me know.

Today's Words of Wit
I've been collecting lots of jokes thanks to my friends on the internet....since I'm a "Senior Citizen" this is one of my favorites....
The $2.99 Special
A man took his wife to a restaurant where the "seniors" special was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $2.99.
"Sounds good," his wife said. "But I don't want the eggs."
"Then I'll have to charge you $3.49 because you're ordering a la carte," the waitress said.
"You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?" the wife asked incredulously.
"Yes," stated the waitress.
"I'll take the special," the wife said.
"How do you want your eggs?" the waitress asked.
"Raw and in the shell," the wife replied. She took the eggs home and baked a cake.
Moral of the story....DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!!

My World This Week
Linda is still here and we went out with Laurie and her girls Sunday to spend the day. Otherwise just busy with work and everything. I don't know where the time goes but it does for sure. I did go to a make up seminar on Saturday and learned a lot of tricks to perk up this old 70 year old Puss....got my new make up today and I think I'll like it. Not much news. American's Got Talent Is On and so I must go....
Today's Words of Wisdom
Okay you Workaholics....here's some good advice from non other than Leonardo Da Vinci:
"Every now and then go away, have a little relaxation, for when you come back to your work your judgment will be surer; since to remain constantly at work will cause you to lose power of judgment."

I can't help it..I do love those blonde jokes (even though I am a "bottle blonde")
IN A VACUUM
A blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit one night....it was her turn. She tolled the dice and she landed on Science & Nature. Her question was: "If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?" She thought for a time and then asked, "Is it on or off?"
DISNEYLAND OR BUST
Two blondes were going to Disneyland. They were driving on the interstate when they saw the sign that said Disneyland LEFT.
they started cryign and turned around and went home.

Thank You God...
...for all the wonderful activities and family and friends that you have given me and which I write about below this. You are such a wonderful "Father" and I delight in your love. And thank you God for giving me another year of life....70 all together now! Wow! ...Please guide and direct me to do that which YOU WOULD HAVE ME DO...PLEASE GOD. And please, please, PLEASE...keep me from going off in directions that entice me and which might even be worthwhile but which you don't want me to waste my time doing. Because at 70....however many years you give me (and only you know this) I still don't have a lot of time left so....God...SPEAK. YOUR SERVANT IS LISTENING.
Welcome to My World ..For that Last Two Weeks

I am so sorry that I am so far behind in writing my blog...I had every good intention of updating it weekly and do intend to do that but as you will see....these almost two weeks have been most hectic.
My birthday (the big 70!) was on July 1 so Laurie's girls cooked a special birthday dinner for me. Laurie and Severina were in Colorado at a softball tournament so it was up to Lindsey primarily with a lot of help from Madalyn to do the cooking and they outdid themselves. Shrimp cocktail appetizers, steak and all the trimmings and special cupcakes..chocolate with white frosting and cocanut (my favorite). Sev was there to oversee everything and it was wonderful. Linda was also in town and that made it special also as she was there.
The next night all of us went out to dinner in Laguna Beach -- Sev's treat (really that man is too wonderful for words) and then we all went to Madalyn's new apartment. Mom and I had not seen it nor of course had Linda. And Sev and the girls hadn't since she had fixed it up. Anyway it is charming and Madalyn is so cute in it. She really fixed up her patio to be the most charming "outside sitting room" so she inspired us to do the same with our's. So....
The next day Mom and I went to Target where I spent $150.00 in gift certificates (and then we put an additional $62 in the pot) for plants, planters etc....outdoor rug....and really made our patio into a lovely "room addition" to our home. I am so proud of it..
The following Monday (4th of July) Linda, who had gone to her condo on Sat., came back with two of the most adorable Yorkie puppies that she found on the internet. Two little girls...one for her (names Gigi) and one for Laurie (Daisy). Took them over to Laurie who was busy packing up her family for a vacation in the Bahamas (they left Tuesday morning at 8:30 A.M.). Laurie was thrilled and Linda and us took the puppies plus Lulu back with us. We kept Lulu while they were gone and Linda took "the girls" with her. We did take them to the Vets on Tuesday and they declared them in perfect health...not so much as a worm from their mother.
Last Friday night I hosted a dinner party (pot luck) for 4 of my gal friends I met through my volunteer activities with the hospital. We had Mexican food and had a great time. And yes we
sat out on that new patio.
The next day was my monthly meeting with my writing critique group....always most helpful.
Next day church, then yesterday off to the weekly AFLAC meeting.
Laurie and family returned last night...Madalyn rushed in on their way home to pick up Lulu who was very happy to see her Mommy and Linda was enroute back from Palm Desert with the puppies so she could deliver Daisy to her Mom. Linda spent the night there and as I write this I haven't heard from anyone over there. They are probably all still snoozin'.
So folks..that's why I have been so far behind everything. I'm going to try to include pictures in all of this. The first picture will be of Daisy, Laurie's puppy. She and Gigi look identical except that Gigi is a little smaller. Then there will be some pictures of our patio and last will be of Madalyn's patio, which was the inspiration for everything.
Rembember 1940
For my birthday I received one of those wonderfully nostalgic cards telling about events "way back when"...since I was born in 1940 I got one from that year. Here is the cost of living in the year 1940 -- some of you may vaguely remember these...others of you, especially my young granddaughters, will find these incredible..

Today's Words of Wisdom
I just opened one of my inspirational books -- Tapestries of Life -- to the section on Generosity and my gaze fell upon this poem. It is particularly meaningful to me as I struggle with what I should keep doing in my life and what I should give up.....and what I'm thinking of "giving up" would affect what I do for others.....maybe I need to rethink my priorities...as really, it isn't "about me"....
The Tides Of Providence
It's not what you gather but what you sow
That gives the heart a warming glow.
It's not what you get but what you give
Decides the kind of life you live.
It's not what you hoard but what you spare.
It's not what you take but what you share---
That pays the greater dividend
And makes you richer in the end.
It's not what you spend upon yourself
Or hide away upon a shelf,
That brings a blessing for the day.
It's what you scatter by the way.
A wasted effort it may seem,
But what you cast upon the stream,
Comes back to you in recompense
Upon the tides of Providenc.
That was written by Patience Strong...I don't know who she is but she is very good.
Don't you agree?

I got this joke from my friend Betty Brown and just howled ...hope you love it too.
SAYING GOODBYE TO MOTHER
You don't have to own a cat to appreciate this one. You don't even have to like 'em!
We were dressed and ready to go out for the New Year's Eve Party. We turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our pet parakeet, and put the cat in the backyard.
We phoned the local cab company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front door to leave the house.
As we walked out the door, the cat we had put out in the yard, scoots back into the house. We didn't want the cat shut in the house, because she always tries to eat the bird.
My wife goes on out to the taxi while I went back inside to get the cat. The cat runs upstairs, with me in hot pursuit. Waiting in the cab, my wife doesn't want the driver to know that the house will be empty for the night. So, she explains to the taxi driver that I will be out soon. "He's just going upstairs to say Goodbye to my mother."
A few minutes later, I get into the cab. "Sorry I took so long," I said, as we drove away. "That stupid idiot was hiding under the bed. I had to poke her butt with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then, I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her fat butt downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!"
The cab driver hit a parked car.

Thank you God...
For the beauty of each and every day; for friends and family that love me and want to be with me; of a wonderful church with so many places to serve; for our country; our state; our home; and most of all....for Your Son who promises eternal life.....Thank You God! Have I told you lately that I LOVE YOU?
Welcome To My World This Week...
Last week was busy.....besides the two granddaughter events already described in the blog below, I finished all the work on the first 3 chapters of novel and got that off to the agent...an enormous undertaking....and still have more to do. Also went to church and visited our church's new offices. They are absolutely lovely. And then a wonderful visit with an old friend Mary Ferris and her incredible son Daniel. Mary and her husband Dave (who stayed home in Az) were dear friends of Harvey's and mine at Anaheim Hills Community Church and we had a great time reminiscing....and remembering Daniel's birth etc. It is always so great to hook up again with old friends....the years just float away and it is "like yesterday" that we were together. As they say.....old friends are like gold. I did promise to visit them in Az. and I must do that. I have others to visit also in Az. so I could quite literally "free load" on lots of people for the better part of a week..ha. And that was My Week Last Week.
Update on Granddaughters.....Big and Little
Wednesday Laurie's fourth daughter, Melissa, graduated from high school. Mom and I were, of course, there and we really enjoyed the program...the student speakers did an outstanding job with their speeches....very interesting and you could understand and hear them...no mumbling. Then it was back to Laurie's for a celebratory supper before Missy went off to her all night party at Dave and Buster's....ah...how they grow.
Speaking of growing....Saturday we took our friend Dorothy with us and went to Paul's house where we joined Gloria's family in celebrating both Nicole's and Rachel's birthdays....11 and 9! Such lovely girls and soooo grown up. It was a delightful..though long day.
How grateful I am to have such wonderful experiences with my grandchildren and I pray that I will have many more years of them.

The company boss was complaining in a staff meeting that he wasn't getting any respect. Later that morning he went to a local sign sho and bought a small sign that read: "I'm the Boss!"
He then taped it to his ofice door. Later that day when he returned from lunch, he found that someone had taped a note to the sign that said:
"Your wife called. She wants her sign back!"

Than you God...
For being so wonderful to me this week in all your blessings. And thank you God for being available as my friends and I come to you with petitions....many.....for a healing for Pastor Rich. You know what all he means to so many people and You Know the plans you have for him and I thank you for working the miracle healing for him that you gave to my dear friend Jeff when they went in to repair a hole in his heart and found none when they got in there even though the pictures of his heart showed a hole. I know God that You fixed that hole before the surgeons went near him and I ask that you do the same thing fro Pastor Rich. THANK YOU GOD.
My World This Week
I've already reported about AFLAC and the puppy and the granddaughters....other than that the most significant thing is that I learned today in church that the pastor at my new church (see earlier blogs) has prostrate cancer and will be having it removed along with the lymph nodes in Aug. I have put a request for prayer on my emails and facebook and if any of you are reading this and haven't already heard about this please remember him in your prayers...his name is Richard Anderson and also please put him on your prayer chains. I know prayer is mighty and I thank you all for praying for him and his family and our congregation.
My Worthington Granddaughters
Mom and I went to Laurie's youngest girl...Severina's softball games Saturday. She caught at all three and they won them all and she did super fantastic.....not only as a catcher but also as a batter. The girl really is a marvel and cute as can be also. Yea Severina!!!!!
This Wednesday we go to Missy (Laurie's number 4) highschool graduation......and she will be going to college at San Marcos......they just grow too darn fast.

Update on Bambi
Last week you recall we had to take Bambi to the Vets and she had a bad ear infection...well...she is doing much, much better. Has been an angel taking meds and getting the stuff put in her ears....we see the Dr. this week...and I am sure he will be pleased with what he sees.
Today's Words of Wit
I got this over the internet from my friend Betty Brown and had to share them with you..
The Economy Is So Bad ......
I got a pre-declined credit card offer in the mail.
I ordered a burger at McDonald's and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"
CEO's are now playing miniature golf
If the bank returns yuour check marked "insufficient funds" you call them and ask if they eant you or them.
Hot Wheels and matchbox stocks are trading higher than GM
McDonald's is selling the 1/4 ouncer.
Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names.
A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico.
Motel Six won't leave the light on anymore.
The Mafia is laying off judges.
And finally...the best of all..........................
I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc. I called the Suicide Lifeline. I got a call center in Pakistan, and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck!

Since this is Father's Day I thought this quote was rather appropriate....especially since Fathers are so much a part of home...
Home is he place whre, when you have to go there, they have to take you in.
That came from the great poet Robert Frost and I believe it is very true.

Latest AFLAC News
I have been going to trainings since Febr. about once a week in our State Office in Corona...and at the beginning we (14 of us) were told that we would be graded on participation, work done during our training weeks, attending every meeting etc. etc. etc. There would be three winners in the TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS as they called it. Well "we" graduated Friday and had a celebratory cocktails and hordouvres after our last all day session. Lo and behold and very much to my shock (not surprise..shock) I was deemed the winner in the TOC....and got $300!!!! What was most surprising was that earlier several of my fellow students told me that I would be the winner and I told them not only did I not expect to be #1 b ut I didn't even expect an honorable mention. Now of course....the pressure is on to live up to this award...and it also must be said that I was the oldest "student"....as Sev my son in law said..."There's something to be said for wisdom"....so AFLAC ANYONE?

Thank you God for my many blessings and for all these wonderful people who take the time to read my blog. Please be with all of them ...and all who they love....as they go about their week. And be with our country and our President and legislatures...they have huge jobs to do Lord and Please bring them to you so You can guide them. Love, Barbara
Welcome To My World This Week...
It has been a busy week.....besides going to visit Paul and his family, I did a little work with AFLAC but very little. Have to really get on the ball this week and give my business top priority. Went to the Dr. this Thursday morning for my physical and I am delighted to report that my glucose # whch means my blood sugar count is down by 9 points and I ahve lost more weight....all my tests came back fine except that I have very low iron so she gave me two prescriptions for that. I was very pleased.
Also Friday night I had a dinner party...invited Linda, a friend of mine from Spiritual Care in Mission Viejo and we also had Dorothy, Mom's friend and we really had a great time. I have decided to cook some dishes whose recipes I've cut out of magazines and so I experimented on my guests and it all turned out good.....
I will continue my "culinary" escapades.
Wish all of you were closer so you could come...

My Son's Great Girls!
Tuesday night I drove into the town 2 1/2 hours away from where I live to spend the night so that I could go to Rachel's play the next morning. She had one of the major leads in the play "Midsummer Night's Dream" and though I am her grandmother and probably a bit "unobjective" I do have to say that she was amazing. Knew all her lines, spoke them clearly and loudly and with the proper emotiion. I think she is a natural for sure.
Then in the afternoon #1 child, Nikki, "graduated" from grammar school and is now going into Middle School. I can hardly believe it...
Paul has asked that I NOT share any pictures on this blog of his kids so of course I have to honor that (he says there's just too many "creeps" out there and that is probably true) but I wish I could. they are so cute. And of course there is also the boy.... Cade..what a doll! So that's my update on my Proud Grandma experience for this week.

My Writing .....
Went to my Christian Writers' Critique Group which I attend the second Saturday of every month and it is such a blessing. They like my rewrite of the book I have to add 11,000 words to before the agent will look at it...I still have soooooooo much to do but they keep me motivated. Meanwhile I haven't yet heard from the agent about the biblical novel and sure hope to soon...
A Bit of a "Puppy Crisis"
We took Bucky and Bambi to the groomers for their monthly grooming Friday and they came back just as adorable as ever...but...the groomer pointed out that Bambi's ears were very infected. I kinda knew this as I had been cleaning them. Then on Saturday when I got back from my Writer's monthly meeting, I called the wonderful vet we had used when I needed to put Kola down and Mom and I took her in. He examined her and she does have a bad infection so we have all kinds of medicines....cleaning and putting the ointment in her ears isn't hard but oh boy! getting a pill down her is a REAL CHALLENGE! We're having meatloaf for dinner and I think we'll roll a pill in a piece and maybe she'll eat it.
Always something when one is a Puppy Mom!

Today's Words of Wisdom
Mary Martin was a popular Broadway and movie star from 1930 - the 70's, maybe even the 80's.
Here is a quote from her that I think is most fitting ....certainly something we should all adopt as our own:
STOP THE HABIT OF WISHFUL THINKING AND START THE HABIT OF THOUGHTFUL WISHES.
So...my "thoughtful wish" for all of you is that you have a most wonderful week and that all your wishes come true.

I received this from my good friend in Utah, Lola Brown and I just had to pass it on.....I know all you gals will relate...unfortunately!!!
WHAT RELIGION IS YOUR BRA?
A man walked into the ladies department of Macy's and shyly walked up to the woman behind the counter and said, "I'd like to uy a bra for my wife."
"What type of bra?" asked the clerk.
"Type?" inquires the man. "There's more than one type?"
"Look around," said the saleslady as she showed a sea of bras in every shape, size, color and material imaginable.
"Actually, even with all of this variety, thee are really only four types of bras to choose from," she continued.
Relieved, the man asked about the types.
The saleslady replied: "There are the Catholic, Salvation Army, Presbyterian and the Baptist types. Which one would you prefer?"
Now totally befuddled, the man asked aboaut the differences between them.
The saleslady responded, "It is all really quite simple. The Catholic typesupport the masses; The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen; The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright; The Baptist type makes mountains out of molehills."
Have you ever wondered why A,B,C,D,DD,E,F,G, and H are the letters used to define bra sizes?
If you have wondered why but coudn't figure out what the letters stood for, it is about time you become informed!
A --- almost boobs
B ---barely there
C---can't complain
D---Dang!
E---Enormous!
F---Fake
G---get a reduction
H---Help me! I've fallen and I can't get up!
They forgot the German bra: HOLTZEMFROMFLOPPEN!

Thank you God...
For our family and their activities, our new church, our friends and pets who love us so unconditionally. For this wonderful new way to communicate and for work that challenges. For our country and our home. For giving me one more day......Love, Barbara
Welcome To My World This Week-end....
Went to Laurie's for a combined graduation party for Missy, who graduates from HS later this month, and Lindsey who graduated from Loyola Marymount last month. It was a lovely affair and in my family section you will see that cute Yorkie with Laurie....
Mom went with me to the new church this morning and wants to go again. I don't think she is quite as crazy about it as I am but seems positive. I just love it and can't wait to get totally "hooked".
I also went through all my recipes that I have been filing for years from various magazines and have decided to make two complete meals a week...was going to do one today but Mom wasn't feeling good enough to eat that much and I wasn't going to cook for just me. So I'll do it tomorrow after I get through working.
We have an exciting week ahead of us....going out to Paul's Tuesday night so we can get up bright and early to attend Rachel's school play and then see Nikki graduate from grammar school and go into Middle School. Hard to believe she is that old!

My Daughter Laurie and the "granddog"

Here's my Laurie with LULU at a party at her (Laurie's) house yesterday to celebrate the combined graduations of Missy (from highschool) and Lindsey (from college). I thought it was so cute....the dress the dog is wearing was brought to her by Laurie and Sev when they were in Hawaii...brought back gifts for their 5 girls and of course LULU too. Note the pendant on Laurie's neck..that's the 25th wedding anniversary gift. Hope you can see it clearly. Anyway, Laurie loves that dog so much that she wants a companion dog of her own but will wait until after all the summer travelling.
Today's Words of Wisdom
This is from a man in Jamaica named George McPhee. I know nothing about him exc ept for this wonderful poem. Enjoy and reflect on your own life.
DRINKING FROM MY SAUCER
I've never made a fortune and it's probably too late now. But I don't worry about that much. I'm happy anyhow. For as I go along life's way, I'm reaping better than I sowed. I'm drinking from my saucer, 'cause my cup has overflowed. I haven't got a lot of riches, and sometimes the going's tough, but there are caring folks around me, and that makes me rich enough. I thank God for His blessings, and the mercies He's bestowed. I'm drinking from my saucer, 'cause my cup has overflowed. If God gives me strength and courage when the going gets steep and rough, I'll not ask for other blessings -- I'm already BLESSED enough. And may I never be too busy to help others bear their loads. With them I'll share my saucer, 'cause my cup has overflowed.
How about your cup? Is it overflowing .... and is that saucer....like mine....almost as bad? Let me know.

Today's Words of Wit
I got this one from my pastor in this morning's sermon.
A terrible storm was raging and little Johnny was afraid and ran to his mother. "Please sleep with me tonight Mommy."
She hugged him. "No Darling. I have to sleep with Daddy."
"The Big Sissy!" Little Johnny muttered.

Meet My Great Granddog

You've all heard of the famous LULU....my granddaughter Madalyn's little Yorkie which she got from her folks for a graduation gift when she graduated from college last year. Well...she just graduated from obedience school so here (I hope) are the pictures of her in her graduation cap. She was the only dog who not only kept her cap on but loved it...but then she is always dressed up and has a wardrobe almost as big as her Mother's.
