Got a copy of a menu from Woolworth's dated in 1957. I was only 17 then and dating so I know I ate in many a Woolworth's in Chicago.
Just look at these prices....
Baked ham and cheese sandwich.....60 cents
Egg Salad sandwich....30 cents
Banana split......25 cents
Milk Shake and Malted Milk (made with 2 dips of real ice cream) 25cents
Hot chocoloate with whipped topping and wafers....15 cents
a slice of aplie pie and a slice of layer cake ..... 15 cents each (10 cents more for ice cream)
a coke......10 cents
cup of coffee with all the refills you want.....5 cents
Ah yes those were the "good old days"..... but then I only made 50 cents an hour!
