Today's Words of Wisdom

I came across this quotation from Norman Douglas....someone I know nothing about. But I think what he says is very pertinent to our nation..and world today....

"You can tell the ideals of a nation by its advertisements."

Thinking about what is advertised on TV....condoms...sexy shows and movies.....anti-depression pills.....to name just a few......makes me wonder what a visitor from another, more conservative planet, would think of us if he came down here and saw our advertising...

WHAT IS IT SAYING ABOUT US? I dare not think.....WHAT DO YOU THINK? COMMENTS ANYONE?

  1. If it's the British writer, he died at the age of 84 in 1952. If he thought advertising was questionable then, look at the slippery slope (that's trite but true) we are currently on.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We can influence advertising, believe it or not. I protested Charmin's commercial of the pink bears racing down the beach looking for a restroom. When they spot two pink porta-potties, the music was the Hallelujah Chorus. The high point of The Messiah! Really really bad taste. I haven't seen it since right after I objected.
I don't like the current one either where the baby bear complains about bits of TP sticking to his rear. I will never buy Charmin.
